Eid al-Fitr celebration and Ramadan (all you need to know)
Eid al-Fitr also called the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. The prolonged fasting isn't just about food, it also includes abstaining from taking medications, drinking any liquids (including water), smoking, and having sex.The date for the start of any lunar Hijri (Islamic Calendar) month varies based on when the new moon is sighted by local religious authorities, so the day of celebration varies by locality.
- It is believed that Prophet Muhammad got the first revelation of the Holy Quran to mankind in this month (Ramadan). Ramadan falls during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Typically, Ramadan starts in May and continues until the end of June.
- Eid al-Fitr begins the weekend following Ramadan. Eid date depends on the moon sighting. The timing for Eid also depends on where you are in the world, and when the new moon is visible.
Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year in Islamic culture. During Ramadan, Muslims fast, and pray to become closer to God. It is also a rime for families to gather and celebrate.
Fasting is considered an act of deeply personal worship in which Muslims seek a raised level of closeness to God.
Once the holy month of Ramadan comes to a close, Muslims all over the world will begin celebrating Eid Al-Fitr. During Ramadan, Muslims took part in periods of fasting, devotion to prayer, purification and charitable acts.
During Ramadan, every day at sunset, families break the fast with the iftar, traditionally opening the meal by eating dates to commemorate Muhammad's practice of breaking the fast with three dates. They then adjourn for Maghrib, the fourth of the five required daily prayers, after which the main meal is served.
Eid al-Fitr Celebrations:
Eid is celebrated with Eid prayers, charity, social gatherings, festive meals, gift-giving, etc. On this day people greet each other and say 'Eid Mubarak'.Eid Mubarak is an Arabic term that means “Blessed Festival”. The term is used by Arab Muslims, as well as Muslims all over the world. Internationally Muslims use it as a greeting for use on the festivals of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.
The Eid prayer is performed in congregation in open areas like fields, community centres or at mosques. The Eid prayer is generally followed by the sermon and the attendees ask Allah for forgiveness, mercy, peace and blessings for everyone in the world.
Eid al-Fitr is a time when Muslims pledge their gratitude to Allah by donating money to various charities and generous efforts. Moreover, the celebration is also considered to be the ideal time for Muslims to forgive those who have wronged them.

Prohibitions during Ramadan month
During Ramadan month Eating, drinking, and sexual relations are not allowed between dawn (fajr), and sunset (maghrib). Drinking any liquids, smoking cigarettes are also not allowed.Muslim people consider Ramadan a sacred month for them. so this month, they try to avoid lying, gossiping, backbiting, being rude. They try to be honest and kind.
